Johnny Depp Eats His Hat

Johnny Depp has been caught eating his own hat on a film set.

The actor has been amusing the crew with his off-the-wall behaviour while filming his role as The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's adaptation of Alice In Wonderland.

Burton, who has worked with Depp on numerous movies including Edward Scissorhands and Sweeney Todd, said the actor is relishing the madcap role.

"Nobody plays oddballs better than Johnny and he's loving playing this one. He actually ate his hat the other day. No word of a lie - he just bit into the brim and chewed," said the director.

Johnny Depp Rum Diary

Rex Features

Johnny Depp's next film will be the Hunter S. Thompson adaptation The Rum Diary, according to The Bad And The Ugly.

The Rum Diary focuses on struggling writer Paul Kemp (Depp) as he becomes involved in a complicated love triangle at the run-down newspaper in Puerto Rico where he has just been employed. Kemp is based on the late gonzo writer Thompson's experiences as a 22-year-old.

Depp portrayed Thompson in Terry Gilliam's Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.

Director Bruce Robinson (Withnail & I) has begun searching for the female lead, Chenault, who Kemp becomes infatuated with.

The Rum Diary is scheduled to begin production in March 2009.

Johnny Depp in Spongebob

Johnny Depp has reportedly agreed to voice a character in a forthcoming SpongeBob SquarePants special.

According to the New York Daily News, the actor will play a surf guru called Jack Kahuna Laguna in SpongeBob vs. The Big One.

The story will see SpongeBob and his friends stranded on a tropical island with Laguna, who advises them that the only way to get home is to surf a legendary wave known as 'The Big One'.

The episode will be released straight to DVD later this year.

JD to narrate Doors documentary

Johnny Depp has reportedly been asked to narrate an upcoming documentary about The Doors.

According to Screen Daily, the actor will voice Tom DiCillo's feature film When You're Strange, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last month.

DiCillo originally provided the narration himself, but it is reported that Depp will begin work on an updated version in the next few weeks.

"Johnny saw the film early on," said producer Peter Jankowski. "We showed him an early cut and he responded very strongly to the subject matter."

The Doors formed in 1965 but split in 1973 following the death of lead singer Jim Morrison. They have reportedly sold over 80 million albums worldwide and are famous for songs including 'Riders On The Storm', 'Light My Fire' and 'The End'.

Rum Diary

Rex Features

Aaron Eckhart and Richard Jenkins have reportedly joined the cast of Hunter S. Thompson adaptation The Rum Diary.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eckhart is in negotiations to play Sanderson, a wealthy landowner who introduces hard-up journalist Paul Kemp (Depp) to a different standard of living but ends up vying with him over the affections of Chenault (Amber Heard).

Wedding Bells For JD?

Are wedding bells ringing for Hollywood heartthrob Johhny Depp? If a recent shopping spree is any proof, the answer seems to be a yes.

The actor had a high-end Southern California jewelery store shut down so he could privately shop for engagement rings on December 10 and he made a "very large purchase" the OK! magazine reported.

Depp and long time girlfriend French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis have two children together-- 9-year-old Lily Rose and 5-year-old Jack. The two had met in 1998 while shooting for The Ninth Gate.

"He looked at an assortment of classic solitaire diamond rings in platinum settings - a really beautiful selection of elegant and understated rings," the sources of the magazine reported quoting sources.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star had recently said, "I don't feel like I need a piece of paper that says I own her and she owns me." But the 45-year-old actor seems to have had a change of heart.

Johnny Depp- Little Britian

Johnny Depp -- who recently agreed to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean for a record $56 million -- is reportedly keen on scoring himself a part in the Little Britain film.

Depp reportedly became a fan of the outrageous series, which was featured as the cover story in Out's October issue, after seeing the American version of the sketch comedy when it premiered on HBO last month.

The actor is currently working with Little Britain star Matt Lucas, who plays Tweedledee and Tweedledum to Depp's Mad Hatter, in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland adaptation, and continues to plead for a part in the big screen version of the show.

"Johnny was laying it on thick saying how much he enjoyed the first episode of the series. He said he would do anything to have a part in the movie," a source told Yahoo! Movies.

Anything? How about offering him the part if he works for scale -- then we'll know if he really wants it.

Johnny Depp in the Three Stooges

When we picture Johnny Depp in a film role, we think of him playing a hot pirate or villain. Not one of the three stooges! But that’s the word on the street! Johhny Depp is being courted for the role of Moe in a film adaptation of The Three Stooges.

But before you go laughing it off, this movie might be better than you think. The Farrelly Brothers are doing, who are the people that brought us classics like There’s Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber. So this might be a movie worth seeing.

Plus, the Farrelly brothers want Sean Penn to play Larry. According to In Touch magazine, they’re still searching for their perfect Curly, but they’ve got a great start if Johnny and Sean both agree. We can totally see Johhny rocking the bowl cut!

Only problem we see here is scheduling conflicts. Johnny has three movies already in pre-production through 2011 So if they want him, they’d better act fast!

Tim Burton Directing Pirates 4?

Now that those ridiculous internet rumors about Batman 3 have been completely debunked (says Batman screenwriter David Goyer: "It's all B.S."), what are enterprising fanboys going to spend their days speculating about? How about the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie! Cinemablend has learned through one of their "most reliable tipsters" (is there another kind?) that Tim Burton may direct the fourth Pirates movie, taking the reigns from Gore Verbinski.

But wait, there's more! After giving us Keith Richards as Johnny Depp's father in the third installment, the makers of Pirates of the Caribbean want Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow to have a brother this time around. Accordingly, it's reported that hopefully either Sasha Baron Cohen or Russell Brand would don the Sparrow family eyeliner.

We have to say, even for cynical Pirates haters like ourselves, this all sounds pretty darn exciting. Would Tim Burton directing a Pirates sequel make us more inclined to see it? Hell yes! As our esteemed colleague wrote yesterday, Mr. Burton's Alice in Wonderland is already shaping up to be pretty awesome (though we'd fantasy-cast Sam Rockwell in the role of The Cheshire Cat and not Jack Nicholson), and we know the director always brings out the best in Mr. Depp. Plus, since Mr. Burton is already making Alice for Disney, it would be very easy for him to go from one massive green screeny airplane hanger to another on the Disney lot.

We know, hold our horses. These rumors are about as probable as Cher playing Catwoman. But it is fun to speculate. What else is the internet for?
